THE GIANTS BEFORE AT&T PARK

The Giants played at the Polo Grounds in Manhattan, New York, until 1957 where they moved west to California and became the San Francisco Giants.

Bob Lurie bought the Giants in 1976’ and he wanted to build a downtown ballpark stadium for the Giants, due to the financial losses they were suffering at Candlestick Park. Lurie threated to move the Giants to different cities, like Santa Clara, San José and Florida because his plan to build a ballpark was rejected.

In 1992 Peter Magowan bought the Giants and in 1995 the team announced plans to build the ballpark that we now know as AT&T Park.

On April 11, 2000, the Giants played their first regular season baseball game at AT&T Park.
